The G-UP Impact - Paying It Forward In The Wild.

Why We Give Back

Why put so much time and energy into creating memorable adventures for paying guests, only to give away the fruits of that labor to others?

Simple: Because the challenge of the mountains saved me.

After overcoming my own struggles, I found real peace and fulfillment by pushing my physical and mental limits in the wild. It took years to fully understand what was happening, but looking back, I realize just how much those quiet valleys and tough summits healed, shaped, and grounded me.

The G-UP Mission

I want to pass that gift on. I want to help those who, for whatever reason, struggle to access the magic of the outdoors.

G-UP exists to make the wilderness accessible and safe, without stripping away the challenge. You still have to earn the memories—because that’s where the real growth happens.

Paying Forward Those “Hard Earned Memories”

We had the privilege of gifting Aaron and Jason their very first full G-UP Adventure, bringing them into the Highlands for a fully guided journey of Munro bagging and off-grid camping. With zero gear to worry about and full crew support on standby, they were able to focus entirely on the challenge, step out of their comfort zones, and take in the raw beauty of the Scottish wilderness.

Finding Their Feet.

Aaron: “As someone who hasn’t hiked a lot before, Gordon was incredible. Within the group he showed us how to navigate using a compass and map and ensured our safety when climbing up the mountains. Gordon had great tips and knowledge from his past experiences that he passed down to us beginners and was great company. I would definitely go with him to do more mountains in the future.”

Jason: “I found the experience with G-UP Adventures was great! Especially for someone like myself who has never done something like this before, it really pushed me out of my comfort zone initially but as I kept going I felt a great sense of accomplishment.

Everything was planned out and executed brilliantly from location, travel arrangements, camp equipment and navigation.

Gordon was very encouraging and always made sure everyone was safe and well maintained to get the full experience.

I would highly recommend G-UP Adventures to anyone who loves to explore and experience the beauty of Scotland and for people like myself who struggle to get the motivation to do these things, the feeling you get after is unmatched.”

Ultra-Marathon Dreams In The Making

Preparing for a high-level ultra-marathon takes relentless grit, disciplined miles, and seamless logistical support. That is where our Pay-It-Forward initiative stepped in for Shaun. To support his intensive race preparations, G-UP provided Shaun with full crewed recce support across his long-distance training blocks on the trail. We handled the heavy lifting behind the scenes—setting up mobile resupply points, providing live GPS tracking, brewing fresh trailside coffee, and having warm dry kit waiting at camp after a brutal day on his feet. By taking the stress out of his route logistics, Shaun could direct 100% of his energy into hitting his target splits, testing his race-day nutrition, and building mental resilience for the challenge ahead. Shaun’s story proves that supported training isn't just a luxury—it's a game-changer. Through G-UP's initiative, we empower dedicated runners to push their boundaries and toe the start line fully prepared.

Shaun: “I have used G-UP’s services several times in recent years and the service these guys provide is exceptional!
I live in south Wales but love racing the W.H.W. course, logistically this can be challenging when training on the course but whenever I travel up G-UP has me covered.
My recces are so well supported, accommodation is taken care of along with aid stops and professional guidance of the course and alternative routes also. The depth of knowledge these guys have of the Scottish highlands is incredible.
You are in the very best of hands choosing G-UP for all your exploring needs, they make a difficult job extremely easy and enjoyable.”

Mutual Grit: Sea to Source with Jim

As an ex-Royal Marine, Jim is no stranger to difficult situations and raw physical discomfort, making him the ultimate athlete to take on a reverse River Ayr Way effort as part of his 100-mile race preparation. Controlling the pace from sea to source, we pushed through the long, wet miles with dynamic mobile support behind the scenes. Unrivalled banter kept spirits high along the trail, turning a gruelling training push into a true team effort focused on building ultimate race-day resilience.

Jim: “Gordon is a legend! His depth of experience, knowledge and understanding of the mountains is exceptional. He has a calm, caring and reassuring nature that immediately puts you at ease. He knows when to encourage you, when to challenge you, and how to make the whole experience enjoyable while always giving you confidence that you’re in very capable hands. Whether you’re an experienced runner or taking your first steps into mountain running, I couldn’t recommend Gordon highly enough. His knowledge, enthusiasm and genuine care for the people he runs with make him exactly the kind of person you want alongside you in the mountains.”

The Buckle and the Bond

True community is forged in the trenches. Back at the 2025 Arc of Attrition 100 mile, Harry faced a brutal DNF, but instead of walking away, he immediately stepped onto the course to support me, a stranger through the hardest miles of my life. Fast-forward to 2026, and we were back on the start line together—leapfrogging each other over the miles, trading encouragement through the dark, and pushing through the deep pain until we both crossed that finish line to claim our Gold Buckles. Crossing that line wasn't just about the medal; the sheer satisfaction of locked-in success was amplified ten-fold by sharing it with someone extraordinary who had lived every mile of the battle alongside me. That is the true heart of G-UP: turning setback into shared triumph and building bonds that carry you over every finish line.

Inspiring Action Year-Round

The drive to tackle the mountains doesn't start on the trail—it’s built through year-round action and community self-development. During the Scottish winter, our Pay-It-Forward initiative moves indoors to keep people engaged, active, and pushing their limits. We encourage individuals to step out of their comfort zones, build functional strength, and forge the mindset needed to take on big goals.

Beyond the gym walls we keep the training going with our W.H.W. Race Support Initiative by offering dedicated winter training over shorter weekend blocks.

Race Day G-UP-in’

Whether under the dawn sky at the starting gate or pushing through the darkness toward the final mile, G-UP remains a constant presence on the course, supporting athletes as they confront their absolute limits. Our crew regularly appears at strategic points to fuel the momentum of the entire field—providing complimentary high-energy resupply stations, documenting the raw grit of the day with free action photography, and offering that signature G-UP spirit exactly when the miles begin to take their toll. This initiative is our commitment to the trail community, ensuring that every runner feels the surge of collective energy and the knowledge that we are right there in the trenches with them.
